Hi, my name is David, and I have a gear problem
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I simply love buying “gear”. In fact, I may be considered womanly when it gets right down to it.
Over the past three days, I have bought a Marmot Fulcrum Shell from Steep and Cheap for 57% off retail and an Arc’Teryx Atom SV Hoody for 40% off retail from a local shop.
Although they have made a noticeable dent in my wallet, I am fully comfortable with those purchases. I plan on using both of them when I go camping this weekend.
Be on the look-out for upcomming, short-term usage reviews on both of them.
On top of those purchases, it looks like the trip to Wyoming is definitely going to happen. I may need a few odds ‘n ends, but for the most part, I think I have all of the major necessities.
With that said, I’m still debating buying some crampons and an ice axe even though I can rent them much more cheaply. Anyone with common sense and logic would say that renting is smart. It’s cheaper, and I’ll be lucky if I use either of those items more than zero times a year.
I, however, am very illogical when it comes to gear whoring. I think of all the sweet stuff I *could* do if I owned them. I usually justify it by, “well, if I buy the gear and have it readily available, I’m more likely to use it.” While true, we don’t have too many (or any) snow capped mountains here in MN. Any usage of those two items would definitely have to be a planned week to an actual mountain.
Oh, and I’m in the market for some cross-country skis. But for whatever reason, I really can’t justify paying full price. Craigslist to the rescue!
So let me hear it. Do you posses this illogical shopping pattern too? It doesn’t even have to be for sweet outdoor gear. If you like to buy chia plants, I wanna know about it.
Don’t Miss Your Chance
I was stuck in Corporate America for 9 years. I was miserable.
Then I took control.
You can too, and it starts right here.
exactly how i feel… sooooo many things i wanna buy 🙁
